The Code Map Services project, involving multiple HHS agencies, aims to enhance interoperability in patient-centered outcomes research (PCOR) using real-world data by building on a prior project to harmonize different Common Data Models (CDMs). The Code Map Services initiative will offer an automated tool to capture mapping rules to transform data between various CDM formats like HL7 FHIR, OMOP, Sentinel, and others, improving data accessibility for researchers. Central to this effort is establishing a “source of truth” for model-to-model mappings within the NCI’s Cancer Data Standards Registry and Repository (caDSR), using semantics matching. Further, the approach will allow model-to-model mappings to evolve and be versioned within caDSR. Key roles in the project include NIH/NCATS handling CDM transformation services, NIH/NCI focusing on caDSR extension and metadata curation, FDA working on FHIR to CDISC SDTM mapping for clinical use cases, and ONC extending the USCDI to encompass FDA-required data elements.
As a member of the NCI team, Samvit Solutions plays a crucial role in this project, drawing on its extensive experience from the National COVID Cohort Collaborative (N3C) project. Samvit’s expertise in semantic harmonization integration and understanding of multiple CDMs is being applied to capturing model-to-model mappings within the NCI’s caDSR guided by the ISO/IEC 11179 Metadata Registry principles.
In a subsequent phase of the project, Samvit Solutions will collaborate closely with subject matter experts from various data models like OMOP, PCORNet, i2b2 ACT, CDISC SDTM, TriNetX, USCDI and HL7 FHIR US Core. This collaboration aims to validate the model-to-model mappings captured in caDSR, ensuring accuracy and reliability. Samvit’s engagement with these experts and meticulous documentation of the mappings’ provenance will provide a valuable reference for future data standardization and interoperability efforts.
This project showcases Samvit’s capability to develop an in-depth understanding of complex data frameworks and design solutions that streamline systems interoperability, making us an ideal partner for organizations seeking data integration and semantic harmonization expertise.
